Where Is My BPAN Code?

The BPAN is a 21-character code printed on the battery pack label. Here is how to find it on your vehicle.

Electric Scooters (Ola S1, Ather 450, TVS iQube)

The battery label is under the floorboard or inside the removable battery compartment. On portable-battery models, check the sticker on the side of the battery unit itself.

Electric Cars (Tata Nexon EV, Tata Tiago EV)

Check the battery label in the boot area, near the charging port housing, or in the owner manual. The BPAN may also be on a sticker inside the door jamb.

Reading the Code

The code looks like: MY008A6FKKKLC1DH80001. It is 21 characters. Ignore spaces on the label when entering.

BPAN stands for Battery Pack Aadhaar Number. It is a unique 21-character alphanumeric code assigned to every electric vehicle battery pack in India. The system was proposed by MoRTH in September 2025. The number is assigned by the battery producer and encodes chemistry type, capacity, voltage, manufacturing date, and cell origin.

The BPAN reveals the battery chemistry type. LFP (Code E) batteries are more thermally stable and considered safer in high-temperature environments. NMC (Code F) batteries offer higher energy density but require more careful thermal management. A battery older than 5 years should be tested at a certified service centre to assess its State of Health (SOH).

EVCheck.in is an independent private tool, not affiliated with MoRTH or the Government of India. The decoder logic is based on the publicly available draft BPAN guidelines (September 2025). Since the regulation is in draft stage, manufacturer codes are not yet mapped to public company names. Chemistry, capacity, voltage, and manufacturing date results are accurate per the draft specification.

NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) provides higher energy density meaning more range per kilogram, but is sensitive to heat and overcharging. LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) offers lower energy density but is significantly more thermally stable, has a longer cycle life, and degrades more gracefully. For Indian conditions — high ambient temperatures, frequent charging — LFP is often more practical for daily use.

If your code is not exactly 21 characters, the battery may have been manufactured before the BPAN regulation was implemented. You may also have misread some characters — the BPAN system excludes I, O, Q and the digit 0. Contact your EV manufacturer or dealership with the code from the battery label for official clarification.
