In March 2026, a long post titled “The Ather Promise vs. Reality” appeared on the official Ather community forum. The owner of a Gen 2 450X wrote that his battery carried a 60,000 km warranty. At 62,000 km, just outside the window, the pack suddenly stopped holding charge, with degradation he estimates at up to 40%. No slow fade, no warning curve. A cliff, two thousand kilometres past the coverage line.
The Second Complaint Stings More Than the First
The same thread raised an issue every EV owner should note: the owner says Ather does not provide a battery health report after service, even for buyers who paid for the Pro Pack and extended warranty. A parallel Reddit thread on r/ATHERENERGY goes further, titled bluntly about service centres understating battery issues. When you cannot see the SOH number, you cannot plan a claim, a sale, or a replacement budget.
But the Same Brand Also Shows the Good Side
Here is the honest counterweight from the same period. Ather has publicly said its 2019 first-generation scooters, now 6 to 7 years old, still average around 90% battery health. On Facebook owner groups, a 450X rider posted a 3-year report showing 97% SOH. So the fleet is not failing. What the forum case proves is something more useful: the spread between a pampered pack and a stressed one is enormous, and distance caps decide who pays.

What 450X Owners Should Actually Do
- Log SOH every 10,000 km: ask for the reading during every scheduled service and keep the receipt. A paper trail converts arguments into claims.
- Watch the calendar, not just km: heat does more damage than distance for scooters parked outdoors. Shade parking and avoiding 100% storage slow the invisible clock.
- Test before the warranty ends: at 55,000 km, not 65,000. A documented drop under the cap becomes a claim in your hand. Past the cap, it is a quote for a new pack.
If you are buying a used 450X or Rizta instead, run the pack label through the Ather serial decoder to confirm manufacture date, then estimate its health with the used EV battery health estimator before money changes hands. Our full walkthrough on how to verify used EV battery health covers the complete test ride protocol.
The 62,000 km story is not an argument against Ather. It is an argument for measuring your own battery instead of trusting it to hold until the last warranty kilometre.
